What We Do

The Panel will operate for a period of 15 years. Thereafter, the County will ensure Erlanger Health’s compliance.  The initial Panel is comprised of three individuals agreed upon by Erlanger Health, the Hamilton County Commission, the Hamilton County Legislative Delegation, and the Attorney General of Tennessee.  Replacement members will be selected by the County Mayor with approval of the Attorney General of Tennessee.

Each year, the Panel receives documentation from Erlanger in support of each of the covenants and commitments, including clinical service and academic offerings, state licensing documentation, and national accreditation surveys. Examples of documents that the Panel reviews include Erlanger’s 2023 annual report, financial assistance and charity care policies, Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) publications, and trauma center designation certifications.

To determine compliance, Panel members independently review each document. The Panel meets regularly throughout the year to discuss their findings and determine if Erlanger has complied with each covenant and commitment. The Panel may request additional documentation from Erlanger to further evaluate compliance. In addition, the Panel may choose to corroborate decisions through personal observations or supplementary conversations with Erlanger leaders, Hamilton County community members, or other third parties.
